Our Story
The idea for KIM TAO Jewelry Market began in a small jewelry store founded by my grandparents. Located inside an Asian fish market, the store was discovered mostly by shoppers who happened to pass by while buying groceries. I joined the business three years ago and quickly noticed that the jewelry industry—particularly the wholesale side—was still relying on outdated, door-to-door sales methods. Despite having beautiful, high-quality pieces, many wholesalers had no real platform to showcase their designs. That sparked the idea to create an online marketplace where wholesale jewelry could be displayed and sold directly to consumers—eliminating the need for middlemen. Through this platform, I can also highlight my grandparents’ inventory and give other sellers a space to share their collections with a wider audience.
We’ve chosen a catalog-based system with offline payments to help preserve the true value of wholesale pricing. Many online platforms charge transaction and processing fees that can quickly add up, ultimately driving prices higher for the customer. These extra costs go against our mission of offering high-quality jewelry at genuine wholesale rates. By using a catalog-style inventory and handling payments offline, we’re able to eliminate those unnecessary fees and keep our prices as low and transparent as possible.
